Judy Termini has been a member of the Gallaudet faculty since 1975, and became the FYE director in 2007. She began her Gallaudet career as an audiologist at the Model Secondary School for the Deaf, and taught in the School of Preparatory Studies for 13 years.  With Catherine Andersen and Maria Waters, she developed the First Year Experience program in 1995, and became director in 2007. Her faculty appointment is in the Communication Studies department, where she has taught public speaking and gender and communication.

During her Gallaudet career, Judy has served the University in many ways. She has often collaborated with faculty and staff outside the FYE program, both on faculty committees and on cross-program task forces and work groups.  Most recently, she served on the President’s Working Group on Enrollment and Retention and the Working Group on Academic Rigor, which designed the General Studies Requirements program. This year she has worked as a member of the Provost’s Task Force on Reinventing Academic Affairs.  In the FYE program, she has developed and taught the honors sections of the First Year Seminar and the Seminar for Peer Leaders, and has coordinated Common Reading authors’ visits. She has presented often at the National Conference on the First Year Experience, and recently at the IUPUI Assessment Conference and the NC State Assessment Conference.
