Each year, a book is chosen for all new students to read before the fall semester begins. The entire campus community also reads this book. A variety of activities, from lunchtime discussions to class assignments, make this experience an integral part of the first semester on campus. This forms an academic bond between students before their arrival. The First Year Experience Program book for the 2007- 2008 academic year will be Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing up Iranian in America by Firoozeh Dumas.

* Firoozeh Dumas, author of Funny In Farsi visited the Gallaudet campus this past spring for a book signing and presentation. We were delighted to welcome her back in October. In addition to her presentation and book signing, Ms. Dumas met with several groups of students, sharing insights and experiences as well as writing advice.
